High storm, heavy rainfall cause damages in Mahottari

GAUSHALA: A torrential rainfall with strong wind has caused big damages in different villages in Mahottari district.

The downpour following the high wind which had started since 3:00 am today caused damages worth tens of thousands rupees in the district, according to the District Police Office (DPO), Mahottari.

The wind blew away roofs of dozens of houses in some villages and broke down sheds and shops in other areas, shared victims.

Likewise, the abrupt rainfall also damaged ready-to-harvest wheat in different areas of the district, according to the District Agriculture Development Office, Mahottari.

Farmers have also shared that the rain followed by the wind had destroyed vegetable farming in hundreds of acres of land in the district.

Meanwhile, the strong wind dismantled electric poles in more than half a dozen villages in the district causing disruption of power supply, shared the Electricity Authority Branch, Jaleshwar.

Likewise, the downpour has triggered huge damages to main road sections in the district including Jaleswor-Janakpur, Jaleshwar-Matihani, Jaleshwar-Bhittamod and Jaleshwar-Rauja.

Loss caused by the natural calamity is yet to be evaluated.
