Hijacked fuel-laden tanker found empty, discarded in Dhanusha

SIRAHA: The fuel-laden tanker that was hijacked en route to Biratnagar from Amlekhgunj depot was found empty in Dhanusha district on Wednesday.

The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) tanker (Na 4 Kha 4163) ferrying 20 kilo-litres of diesel parked in Lahan of Siraha district was hijacked with its driver and assistant inside the vehicle, at midnight on Monday. The tanker belongs to Rajesh Kumar Gupta, owner of Ugrachandi Petrol Pump in Dhangadhimai Municipality-4, Siraha.

The locals had found the empty tanker discarded beside the road this morning at Ramdaiya Bhawade in Dhanusha. Police have taken the vehicle under control.

The driver and his helper were sleeping after their meal on Monday night in front of the Lahan Post Office when an unidentified group in a Tata Sumo restrained and commandeered them with the tanker, informed Nepal Tanker Entrepreneurs Association central member Ram Sagun Yadav. The driver Ramdev Yadav and helper Umesh Yadav, both of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-4, were later dropped off in Bardibas jungle.

According to Chief of Siraha District Police Office Upa Prasad Chaturbedi, an investigation into the highjacking is going on and details of the crime will be made public only after completion of the investigation.
