Home-stay operates near Jagdishpur wetland in Kapilvastu

JITPUR, KAPILVASTU: Home-stay service has come into operation for the first time in Kapilvastu district with the growing popularity of such local accommodation among the tourists.

The Tharu community at Jagadishpur of Kapilvastu Municipality-9 have started offering home-stay services to the visitors coming to their area, especially those coming to the historic Tilaurakot Durbar, Kudan, Gotihawa, and Jagadishpur lake, among other touristic sites in the district.

Jagadishpur lake, which is the country's largest man-made lake, is listed among the world wetlands. The home-stay service is provided in a Tharu village close to the lake.

The service that began with 13 households has accommodated over 200 national and foreign tourists till now, Sarita Tharu, Secretary at the Jagadishpur Wetland Home-stay was quoted as saying in Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

International tourists who have utilised the home-stay service come from Canada, America, Sri Lanka, and China among others.

Tharu also shared the plan of registering the home-stay business to carry out its operation in an organised manner.

Home-stay operators shared that visitors are provided with local Tharu cuisines like local chicken, dhikari, chichar, khoriya, and duck meat among others.
