House committee to prepare final report on Open University bill

KATHMANDU: The Women, Children, Senior Citizen and Social Welfare Committee under the Legislature-Parliament on Tuesday decided to prepare a final report on the Nepal Open University Bill, 2072.

A task force has been formed under the coordination of committee president Ranju Kumari Jha for the purpose.

The committee took this decision after holding discussions on the suggestions and amendments on the Bill at a meeting held today.

The bill was tabled in Parliament by the then Minister for Education Chitra Lekha Yadav in the erstwhile government.

It is expected that the open university would be useful to the people who lack access to higher education due to obstacles like poor economic and social condition and geographical remoteness.

The infrastructure committee has already purchased around 14 ropanis land for the university at Banepa in Kavrepalanchok district.

At present there are nine universities in the country.
