House panel dwells on Susta

Kathmandu, January 2:

The parliamentary International Relations Committee today directed the government to initiate a "high-level diplomatic approach" with India to end the encroachment dispute over Susta in Nawalparasi district.

A m eeting of the committee held at the Parliament Secretariat today directed the government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to hold talks with India regarding the border regulation, in Susta and Kalapani, on the basis of maps and documents.

Committee members emphasised the need to address the border problems considering the "national sensitivity". The committee also directed the government to manage health, education and security measures in the Susta immediately.

Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan earlier told the committee that the issue of encroachment in Susta should be discussed and resolved by generating consensus.
