House panel seeks detailed relief report

Kathmandu, December 17:

The Parliamentary Conflict Victims’ Rehabilitation and Relief Mobilisation Monitoring Special Committee today directed the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction (MoPR) to furnish “detailed report” on the relief efforts and mobilisation made so far.

The committee gave this directive after the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction submitted a report to it informing its achievement on relief mobilisation to the conflict victims.

The Ministry said it had already allocated Rs 140 million for the victims. “The report presented to the committee was not clear on certain issues, so the committee asked the ministry to work on it and submit a detailed report soon,” lawmaker and committee member Uma Adhikari told this daily.

Member of the Legislature Parliament Lekhraj Bhatta and a member of the relief monitoring committee complained that security forces did not “cooperate” with the lawmakers from the far-west region in their efforts to identify the genuine conflict victims.

“Instead, they (security officials) presented themselves in an aggressive manner,” he added.
