At least two houses were reduced to ashes in a fire at Phuling Bazaar in Taplejung today.

The houses belonging to Netra Baral and Padam Prasad Poudel of Phuling Bazaar were destroyed completely. The fire spread from coffee house area in the bazaar this afternoon. District Police Office, Taplejung said the fire spread from Baral’s house at around 2:00 pm and also engulfed the house belonging to Baral’s neighbour.

The Nepali Army, police and the locals had taken the blaze under control in an hour.

Chief District Officer Chakrapani Pandey said it took time to douse the fire as the fire engine could not reach the incident site on time due to narrow roads.

It is said that some of Poudel’s belongings were taken out but the house belonging to Baral was completely destroyed in the fire.

CDO Pandey said they were yet to collect details of the damage cause by the fire and a rescue team has saved other houses from fire. Earlier, 47 houses were destroyed in the blaze on March 23, 2015 in the district.
