Housing project still in limbo

Kavre, October 23

Fifteen years on, the fate of a housing project that the government had planned to begin at Srikhandapur of Dhulikhel Municipality in Kavre continues to be in limbo.

Rastriya Awas Company, which aimed to begin the construction of well-managed residences, had purchased 54 ropani land in 2002. Nine years have passed without any progress as the company didn’t heed the need to construct an embankment on the eastern side on the banks of Punyamata River.

The company opened a unit office and project office to speed up the project in 2011. Subsequently, it separated the land from the river and constructed an embankment, said acting chief of the project Sangita Dhaumadel.

She said the project was delayed in the absence of a master plan and land acquisition also took time. “After the master plan was recently readied, plotting, developing tracks and graveling, erecting electric poles, among other activities, are going on,” said Dhaumadel.

As per the company, necessary garden, parking, drinking water, electricity poles among other infrastructure will be developed along with 100 houses in the area.

The company, however, informed that the dumping site in Banepa Municipality was creating hurdles for construction of the housing. “Hence, the company has written to the municipality to remove the dumping site,” said Dhaumadel.
