Huge cache of banned drugs confiscated in Udayapur; pedlars made public

GAIGHAT: Police in Udayapur district today have made public two persons arrested in possession of a huge cache of illegal pharmaceutical drugs from the premises of Deuri Higher Secondary School in Triyuga Municipality-6.

The arrested have been identified as Ganesh Kumar Gupta (26) and Om Prakash Rai (22), both residents of Jaljale Bazaar in Triyuga-6.

Organising a press meet at Udaypur District Police Office, Superintendent of Police (SP) Chandra Dev Rai paraded the arrested duo along with drugs and other belongings confiscated from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off, police confiscated 260 ampoules of phenergan, 120 ampoules of lupigesic, 270 ampoules of diazelab, 165 ampoules of nurofen, 100 tablets of nitrosun, along with a Samsung smartphone set, a Nokia smartphone set and 14 NCell sim cards from the possession of duo, at around 4:30 pm yesterday.

On the occasion, SP Rai revealed that for the first time police confiscated such a huge amount of illegal drugs in the fiscal year 2075/76. He said the arrested were drug pedlars as well as drug abusers themselves.

Meanwhile, the duo has been taken in police custody and a case has been filed against them.

Police revealed that there were a total of 76 drugs-related cases in the current fiscal year as of February 12, of which 29 cases were filed in the court while 47 others lacked evidence.

Police had confiscated 45 ampoules of lupigesic, 87 ampoules of diazepam, 54 ampoules of phenergan, 240 tablets of nitrosun, 19 ampoules of nurofen, 29 bottles of dialex and 3.4 kilograms of marijuana during this period.
