Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has emphasized that human rights-friendly governance is a top priority for the current government.
Speaking at a human rights award distribution ceremony held at Singha Durbar today, Prime Minister Dahal underscored the government's commitment to establishing a human rights-friendly system grounded in principles of good governance, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
He also highlighted the government's high priority on respecting, protecting, and fulfilling human rights.
Prime Minister Dahal pointed out that the Constitution encompasses most human rights under fundamental rights. Furthermore, he mentioned the establishment and active functioning of various constitutional commissions, including the National Human Rights Commission and the National Women's Commission, which play crucial roles in monitoring and supervising the protection of human rights.
Constitutionally guaranteed remedies for human rights violations through an independent and competent judiciary were highlighted by Prime Minister Dahal. He called for enhanced coordination with non-governmental organizations and civil society to ensure the respect, protection, and fulfillment of human rights.
During the event, the Prime Minister announced the government's decision to establish a human rights award fund to acknowledge the contributions of individuals and organizations working in the field of human rights.
Emphasizing Nepal's commitment to fulfilling its obligations under international human rights treaties, Prime Minister Dahal stated that Nepal actively participates in international forums on human rights, demonstrating solidarity and working towards global respect, protection, and fulfillment of human rights.
He stressed the effective implementation of the national action plan on human rights through coordinated efforts among all three levels of government and civil society organizations actively engaged in human rights advocacy.
