Humla infants die for want of timely treatment

HUMLA: Two infants have died due to lack of treatment at a local health post in Rodikot VDC of the district.

The deceased have been identified as Raj Bahadur Karki's eight-month-old daughter Sushila from Rodikot – 8 and Angat Karki's two-month-old daughter Sushmita of the same locality.

The infants died of pneumonia and high fever.

A local of the area, Adan Singh Karki, said there were no medicine at the health post.

"There are not even paracetamol tablets at the health post," he said. He added that various diseases have spread in the village as the drinking water has been contaminated due to the rainy season.

The number of patients visiting the health post has increased, but the medicines sent from district headquarters finished before the onset of monsoon have already run out of the stock.

Further, there have not been additional medicinal supplies.

District Health Office Information Officer, Naresh Babu Shrestha, however, said a new consignment of medicines had already been dispatched for the village.
