Pokhara, July 17:

Demolition of houses and huts constructed violating the highway standard continued here today .

The Pokhara RDO demolished such houses and huts up to two kilometers from Prithvi chowk to Amar Singh Chowk at Pokhara-10 today. “I constructed my house after Pokhara sub-metropolis approved construction of the house two years ago, however, my house was demolished,” Kamal Basnet of Buddha Chowk said.

When houses were demolished, the locals of Buddha chowk were weeping on the roads . The Prithvi Highway from Prithvi chowk to Kotre, border of Kaski and Tanahun will be cleared within a week, the Pokhara RDO said. Compensation would be paid to owners of those houses and huts that were constructed before the highway was built, Pokhara RDO chief Balram Mishra said.
