Hydel project resumes production

Taplejung, February 6:

The Somuwakhola Micro Hydro Power Project situated at Hangpang resumed operation from yesterday after a week.

The electricity supply from the project was disrupted after the Maoists padlocked the project office a week ago demanding 25 per cent of profit as donation.

The electricity supply resumed with the initiatives of the consumers, Chairman of Electricity Consumers Committee, Santosh Khatiwada, said. He added that the Committee made an agreement with Maoists keeping in mind the inconvenience of the locals.

Lack of electric power had affected operation in a number of factories situated at the district headquarters as well as Dokhu, Fungling, Hangpang and Chaange VDCs. Some 850 families are benefiting from the 125 KW project.
