Illegal use of drone-cameras

Mustang, April 4

An increasing number of tourists coming for trekking on the Round-Annapurna trek are found to be using illegal drone-cameras.

The incidents came to light when two foreign tourists were found taking pictures and videos using drone-cameras for which they had not obtained permission from the authorities.

Police arrested Michael and Aja Tosar from Lomangthang on December 2, 2015 and an Ukranian Domitrov Polikal from Ghorepani area on March 17 using the illegal drone-cameras.

Police confiscated drone sets, remote control, two sets of batteries and memory cards from them.

The tourists coming here for enjoying the natural beauty and local culture were found taking photos and videos with drone-cameras.

The government issued a directive on the use of drone-cameras in November last year after domestic and foreign tourists were caught taking videos and photos of sensitive places using drone-cameras, especially after the April 25 earthquake.

One has to take permission from the local authorities for using drone-cameras.
