Implementation of pacts must: UML

Kathmandu, November 23:

The 13th central committee meeting of the CPN-UML, chaired by party general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, today hailed the November 8 historic political agreement between the seven-party alliance and the CPN-Maoist and the landmark Comprehensive National Peace Treaty signed between the Government of Nepal and the CPN-Maoist on November 21.

It also sought effective implementation of the peace treaty and all other pacts reached in the past.“Today’s meeting highly appreciated the November 8 political agreement and the peace treaty,” said UML standing committee member Amrit Kumar Bohara. He said the meeting stressed the need of timely and effective implementation of all agreements and the treaty. The meeting, which will continue tomorrow, also remembered the day when the seven-party alliance and the Maoists had reached a historic 12-point agreement on November 22 last year.

It also recalled how the party had made several rounds of parleys with the underground Maoist leadership in Silgudi and Lucknow in India and in Rolpa with a view to bringing the rebels into peaceful politics.

Today’s meeting was addressed by standing committee members Jhala Nath Khanal, Bamdev Gautam and KP Sharma Oli, also the deputy PM and Foreign Affairs Minister.
