Importance of free software stressed
Kathmandu, September 11:
The High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT) along with the FOSS (Free and Open Source Software)-Nepal Community today held a press conference for the upcoming Software Freedom Day to be celebrated here on September 15.
The HLCIT team led by Madan Pariyar, member secretary of the HLCIT, underscored the importance of freedom software and open source and said that the upcoming event would attempt to make the software users “aware of the usefulness of open source, open content and open standard.”
Through interactions, meetings and presentations, the organisers aim to draw the attention of users, students, computer executives, IT professionals, government bodies and others interested in software development and its usage.
‘Linux for Desktops,’ has been chosen as the slogan for this year’s celebration, to be organised jointly by HLCIT and FOSS Nepal, for the third time in the country.
