Imports up via Kailali customs

Dhangadi, July 20

There has been an increase in the import of goods and commodities via the Kailali customs.

According to Kailali Customs Officer Gopikrishna Upreti, goods worth Rs 7.88 billion were imported through the customs point last fiscal.

“While seven types of goods and commodities worth over Rs 7 billion were imported through the customs point, exports during the same period stood at a mere 624.5 million rupees,” he said, blaming low exports on the absence of a quarantine check-post on the Indian side of the border.

The data with the customs office showed that petroleum products accounted for around 45 per cent of total imports via the customs, while the shares of import of biscuits and paper are seven and three per cent respectively. “It has also increased revenue collection from this customs,” Upreti said.
