Programme for people with disabilities

The Inclusive Livelihood Programme is set to be executed in six VDCs and one municipality in Kavre to benefit people with disabilities.
Organising a meeting in the district, the Source Management and Rural Empowerment Centre informed about the programme.
Executive Director at the centre Gokul Gautam said that his organisation will implement the livelihood programme with financial support from the NGO Christoffel Blinden Mission at Ghartichhap, Banakhuchaur, Budhakhani, Jyamdi, Mahadevsthan, Panchkhal, and Jaisithok VDCs.
Gautam said that the centre would facilitate in setting up 100 micro-enterprises and seven community enterprises that would help 406 families to earn a livelihood in three years. As per Gautam, the programme will cover up to 80 per cent of the total costs for establishing various enterprises.
The centre has already collected data of people with disability in the six VDCs and one municipality. According to the data, there are 383 people in these areas living with various disabilities, of which 236 don’t have a disability identity card, which would entitle them to state benefits. The organisation will help people with disabilities begin enterprises such as mushroom farms, tailor shops, tea shops, bee farms, coffee processing, among others.
Kavre LDO Tekraj Niraula and senior veterinary doctor Narayan Shrestha were among those who pledged to lend support to the programme.
