Indefinite strike on East-West Highway from today

KATHMANDU: The National Struggle Committee of Conflict-hit Army Police today announced that it would indefinitely halt vehicular traffic on the East-West Highway from tomorrow.

Issuing a press release, the NSCCAP said that it was left with no options but to adopt strong measures to press the government to address their demands. "We have been forced to launch transport strike because the government turned deaf ears towards our demands," the release stated. The committee has put forth five-point charter of demands, including reinstatement to their jobs and reasonable compensation among others. It has also demanded compensation to the families of security personnel who lost their lives during insurgency.

More than 7,000 security personnel of Nepal Police, Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department had deserted their service during insurgency, citing security reasons.
