India to expand rail link up to Biratnagar

Biratnagar, June 4:

Indian Union Railway Minister

Lalu Prasad Yadav today inaugurated the 108-kilometre Purniya-Jogbani broad gauge railway line in Jogbani. On the occasion, he said the Indian government plans to expand the broad gauge railway line up to Biratnagar. A survey to expand the railway line is underway, the minister said.

Yadav said the construction of the broad gauge railway line up to Jogbani will cut down the cost of importing raw materials to Nepal from India. The railway started its service by ferrying passengers from Jogbani up to Kolkota. The train will operate between Jogbani and Delhi (Ananda Bihar) once a week, while it will operate between Jogbani and Kolkata thrice a week.
