India will support system chosen by Nepalis: Despande
Kathmandu, June 1:
Indian people and their representatives will support decision of the Nepalis on the
type of system they want in place in the country, Nirmala Despande, a member of the Indian
Parliament and leader of the six-member Indian delegation, said today, wrapping up the team’s Nepal visit.
“The kind of system Nepal should have will be decided by the Nepali people and the decision should be accepted by the government and the parliament,” Despande, speaking at the Reporters’ Club, said. “We have conveyed Indian people’s goodwill to the people and political leaders we met here and will take their message to the Indian parliament,” said Despande.
“Indian people will lend full support for making Nepal’s peace talks successful,” she said, adding: “Indian people are happy with the declaration of Nepal as a secular state and the House of Representatives as the supreme body of the nation following a struggle of 19 days”.
“Nepal’s success will go down in world history,” said Despande. Despande stressed the need for Nepal to go for the elections to a Constituent Assembly. The members of the Indian delegation had met PM Girija Prasad Koirala, CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal during their visit. The delegation also met RPP chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana, and held discussions with him on the current political situation in the country.
