Indian Express extends medical support to quake-hit health centres

Kathmandu, May 15

The Indian Express newspaper has extended medical support worth Rs 12.8 million to three quake-hit health institutions in Nepal.

The Indian daily provided at least 20 types of medical equipment, including x-ray machines and operation theatre beds to Jibjibe Primary Health Centre of Rasuwa, Kakani Primary Health Centre of Nuwakot and Melamchi Primary Health Centre of Sindhupalchowk. Executive Editor of Indian Express Rakesh Sinha extended the support to the representatives of these health centres in the presence of Minister for Health Gagan Thapa amid a function organised in the capital today.

On the occasion, Minister Thapa said the medical support was an important contribution from the people of India to help Nepal in the challenging post-quake scenario. He also pledged to best utilise the contribution made by the Indian Express.

On his part, Sinha said the amount needed to buy the medical equipment was collected from employees of the Indian Express Group and people of India.

The three health centres that received the support were badly damaged in the devastating earthquake of April, 2015.
