Indian President Mukherjee arrives in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Indian President Pranab Mukherjee arrived in Nepal on a three-day state visit on Wednesday.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari received her Indian counterpart at the VVIP lounge at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

The state guest is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with his Nepali counterpart today itself.

President Bhandari will also host a state banquet this evening in honour of Indian President Mukherjee.

The government has announced public holiday today in honour of the visiting Indian President.

Upon his arrival at the TIA, a troop of Nepal Army had provided guard of honour to Indian President Mukherjee.

Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal will also meet Mukherjee today itself.

Mukherjee will visit the Pashupatinath Temple for a puja and attend a function hosted by the Kathmandu University to honour him with an honorary degree on November 3.

The Indian President will attend a civic reception in Kathmandu.

Indian President Mukherjee will deliver a speech at a seminar of Niti Anusandhan Pratisthan Nepal and India Foundation.

On the next day, November 4, Indian President Mukherjee will visit Janakpur and Pokhara.

He will perform a puja at the Janakpur-based Janaki Temple.

The Indian President will return to Kathmandu on the same day for return to India.

This is the first visit of an Indian President to Nepal in 18 years.

KR Narayanan was the last Indian president to visit Nepal in May 1998.
