Industrialists announce protests

Biratnagar, February 25:

Industrialists on Morang-Sunsari corridor today made public their protest programmes,

demanding supply of the 60 MW of electricity that is being imported from India to the industrial area.

Organising a press meet, the Industries’ Organisation Morang stated that over 500 industries on the Morang-Sunsari corridor were hit hard by excessive load-shedding.

A meeting of the working committee of the organisation chaired by its president Dinesh Golchha decided to launch agitation to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the industries.

Shyam Poudel, a member of the organisation, said though the NEA officials had promised to distribute the electricity supplied from Kataiya of India to the industries in the region, the electricity was linked to the national transmission line. Another member Suyesh Pyakurel said the agitation was announced to protest the miserable condition of the industries due to the power cuts. “Meetings and talks with the NEA were held 62 times to end load-shedding in industrial areas, but to no avail,” Pyakurel said.

According to Shyam Poudel, the protests include submitting a memorandum to the PM through

the CDO, hanging black banners at the main gates of the industries and sit-in at district administration office from February 27 to March 3, among others.
