Industrialists’ threat to gherao NWSC

Rupandehi, July 6:

The Butwal Chambers of Commerce and Industries yesterday threatened to gherao the office of Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC) in Butwal if its demand for sufficient supply of potable water in the Butwal municipality went unheard.

Participants at a seminar on “Role of Industrialists, Businessmen and Government Offices in the economic development of Butwal” organised by the chambers applauded after two former presidents of the chamber, Nirmal Prasad Lacoul and Arjun Man Sainju, issued the threat note.

They said that the water distribution system in Butwal is in a mess. On the occasion, head of the Butwal office of the Quality Standardisation and Measurement Office Guna Raj Bhatta said he would join the businessmen community and civilians in gheraoing the NWSC office, adding that he was ready to face any government action for doing so.

NWSC Butwal branch manager Dipak Jyoti Shakya, who stayed away from the programme despite the invitation, was summoned by chief district officer Dhurv Raj Wagle to express his views in the programme.

Shakya told the programme that the distribution of pure water is not possible for at least a year.

The CDO ordered Shakya to submit a report on the prospects of distributing pure water and the problems in doing so within a week.
