Inebriated man arrested for killing wife in Pokhara

POKHARA: There has been an increase in incidents related to violence against women in Kaski district in recent times.

No sooner had police on Wednesday made public the culprit involved in sexual abuse and murder of 10-year-old Shreeya Sunar in Pokhara, than they arrested a man on the charge of killing his own wife last night.

The arrested has been identified as Yan Bahadur Gurung (55), a resident of a squat located on the bank of a river in Pokhara Metropolis-32.

Gurung, under the influence of alcohol, had reached home at around 9:00 pm last night, according to Police Chief of Kaski, Superintendent of Police (SP) Om Bahadur Rana.

When his wife Shree Maya (60) rebuked him for drinking liquor, he, in a fit of rage allegedly pelted his wife with a stone and inflicted fatal injuries on her head. Subsequently, Gurung swathed her body and dumped it nearby before he fled the scene hollering, "I killed my wife!"

Acting on the information from locals the same night, police reached the incident site and apprehended Gurung who was hiding below the levee of the river at some distance away from his squat.

It has been reported that the deceased had been suffering from paralysis.
