Injured Chitwan woman dead

Chitwan, April 9:

Tulsi Dumrakoti Chhetri, (28) one of the three women bystanders injured by the bullets of security forces during a protest rally yesterday, died today while undergoing treatment.

The other two women, Pramila KC (35), a resident of Bharte of Lamjung and Pratiksha Adhikari — both living as tenants in Tulsi’s house — have been airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment.

Meanwhile, agitators and police here clashed repeatedly on the fourth day of the general strike called by the seven-party alliance. Eight policemen and 15 agitators were injured. Police arrested 65 agitators.

The District Administration Office (DAO) clamped curfew from 7 am in the municipality area.

The agitators, however, defied curfew and prohibitory orders and took out rallies from different places.

Police opened fire in Ward No 2, 3 and 10 of Bharatpur municipality, locals said, adding that at Gaindakot two people — Om Prakash Sapkota and Yam Lal Ghimire — were injured.

Meanwhile, district-based different organisations urged their respective members to take part in the agitation for democracy.

In a statement, Som Nath Marahattha, the chairman of the Chitwan Industrial Union, urged all industrial workers to participate in the movement.
