A detainee awaiting trial in connection with the murder of his wife committed suicide in his prison cell last night in Dolakha.

Chyanga Sherpa, 24, of Lapilang, Kalinchowk Rural Municipality, Dolakha was sent to judicial custody after being accused of murdering his wife yesterday.

According to DSP at District Police Office Basudev Pathak, Sherpa was found hanging from the window of a lavatory inside the prison at night.

“He had gone to lavatory at night but didn’t return for long. When prison guards went to search for him, they found him hanging from the window,” informed the DSP.

Dolakha police had arrested him on January 4 for murdering his wife. After 24 days in police custody, he was presented at the court after completing investigation.

Sherpa’s body has been kept at the Charikot Primary Health Centre for post-mortem. His wife Sarkini Sherpa, aka Lukky, was found dead in her room in Charikot on December 31 last year.
