Interaction on corruption issues organised

Kathmandu, February 24:

The Chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Surya Nath Upadhyay, today said there is lack of proper indicator to measure corruption in the country.

“There is lack of appropriate mechanism to measure corruption in the country,” he said, adding that the intention of the term unreasonable action as provided by the Nepalese laws should be clear whether it is against corruption or not.

Upadhyay was speaking at an interaction programme on corruption measures organised by the Research and Media Centre Against Corruption, Nepal.

He also said that there are several provisions on unreasonable actions in law but they are not clear and called everyone to work against corruption.

Bachhu Ram Dahal, Deputy Auditor General, however, said presense of unaudited amount in any office cannot be taken as corruption and that people should be clear that the AG’s report in this regard should not always be taken as corruption.

Anti-corruption activist Dr Bhola Chalise said that the investigation carried by international bodies should be taken as measures of corruption.
