Maithili conference begins

Rajbiraj, December 22

Fifteenth International Maithili Conference has begun in Saptari district headquarters Rajbiraj from today.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jitendra Narayan Dev inaugurated the two-day event supposed to be a milestone for the promotion and preservation of Maithili language, culture, art and literature.

The programme was organised with a slogan that seeks recognition for Maithili language as the official language for Province 2.

Speaking on the occasion, Dev, the chief guest, also stressed on the preservation and promotion of the Maithili language, culture and literature and said, “As Maithili language and culture has a long history, the people here must do their best to preserve this cultural heritage,” the minister said, also pledging his own initiatives towards that effect.

Participants from India and Nepal will present their papers and recite their poems during the conference.

Prior to the beginning of the programme today, a procession reflecting Maithili culture and art had started from the local Public Bindeshwori Higher Secondary School and made a round of Rajbiraj.

The programme will end tomorrow by issuing Rajbiraj manifesto.
