Janakpurdham, July 21:

Demanding more water for irrigation, women gheraoed chief of the Kamala irrigation project Ram Sharan Jha in the Janakpur liaison office.

As their fields are located at the bottom of the western canal of the irrigation project, the women fear that they will not get enough water to irrigate their fields and will be compelled to face famine. Women of the Khajuri consumers’ committee, which is located at the bottom of the western canal of the irrigation, submitted a memorandum to the project chief, demanding that smooth supply of water be ensured.

The memorandum calls on the project chief to ensure sufficient supply of water, scrapping of fake contracts and maintenance of the canal. Demanding that the Janakpurdham liaison office be closed, the women demanded that the divisional head office do all the work, a woman participant, Laxmi Mandal, said.
