Jail inmates continue protest

TANAHUN: Inmates of Damauli prison continued their protest for the second consecutive day today to pressure the administration to address their demands at the earliest. The inmates started their agitation yesterday demanding to open all the gates of the prison except the main gate. The inmates had padlocked the main gate of the prison from the inside.

The Damauli prison remained tensed the whole night yesterday as the inmates were chanting slogans against the administration till 2 am in the morning. Meanwhile, acting CDO Thamansingh Thapa informed that they were discussing with authorities concerned to solve the issue at the earliest. He informed that they had beefed up the security in the jail to prevent any untoward incidents.

Damodar Sharma, chief of the prison, claimed that the situation was gradually coming under control. “We are serious about addressing the demands of the inmates,” he said. The inmates are also demanding

that the prison should be allowed to accommodate inmates as per its capacity. They informed that there were 81 inmates in the prison though its capacity was only 25.
