Janakpur Cigarette Factory workers gherao industry minister

JANAKPURDHAM: The workers of Janakpur Cigarette Factory today gheraoed Mahendra Raya Yadav, Minister for Industry, and chanted slogans against him.

The workers, who have not been paid on the pretext of an economic crisis, have protested demanding immediate appointment of the General Manager, sale of the building and land of the central office located at Naya Baneshwor in Kathmandu and action against the Chairman.

The workers, who used to receive their salaries by the 25th of every Nepali month, received it one month late last instance. They are infuriated at the scarcity of raw materials in the factory while the government has not taken an initiative to improve the state of affairs in the factory.

Minister Yadav said the process to appoint the general manager would be immediately started by announcing a vacancy. He added that the property of the central office would be sold to the Citizens' Investment Fund for Rs 800 million while talks would immediately be held between the workers and the Chairman.
