Rajbiraj, May 30

The budget allocated for Janata Awas (People’s Home) Programme meant for nine VDCs of Saptari district is most likely to freeze due to non-implementation of the project.

The project never saw light of day due to a political dispute over the appointment of officials in the district level coordination committee.

Parliamentarian leaders of the coalition CPN Maoist Centre have been protesting against the legitimacy of the coordination committee.

Earlier, a committee led by Nepali Congress leader Surendra Prasad Yadav was formed while NC’s Teju Lal Chaudhary and CPN UML’s Tara Kanta Chaudhary were the other members.

However, there was no representative from the CPN Maoist Centre.

When the committee held its first meeting, leaders fromthe CPN-Maoist Centre had demanded dissolution of the committee.

“We had no option but to seek dismissal of the committee as Surendra Prasad Yadav turned his deaf ear when we urged him to help construct 20 houses for the marginalised and Dalit communities under the programme in our locality,” complained Maoist leader Ashok Kumar Mandal of Rajbiraj.

Meanwhile, Milan Acharya, chief of Urban Development and Building Construction Department, said they were unable to implement the programme amid persisting dispute among lawmakers.

At least 130 houses, including 10 each at Madhupatti, Haripur, Malahanma and Koiladi Barsain of the district were supposed to be built under the programme this fiscal.
