Joint students' union padlocks Mid-Western University
SURKHET: A joint students' union has padlocked the Mid-Western University Surkhet since Tuesday, protesting the University's decision to grant affiliation to private colleges in Surkhet district.
Joint students' union had staged the protest claiming that the decision goes against the instruction of University Grant Commission.
All Nepal National Free Student Union's (ANNFSU) District Chairman Dhupendra Shahi alleged that the process of granting affiliation to private colleges rather than community colleges points to financial irregularities.
In the protest programme staged in Birendranagar, ANNFSU-Revolutionary's Secretariat Member Rajendra Budha expressed his concern over the varsity's handing out affiliation in a non-transparent manner without consensus among the student unions and the majority of the senate members.
He warned of lodging a stringent forms of protest if the varsity does not immediately roll back its decision.
