Journalists protest police atrocity

SIRAHA: Protesting assault on journalist Santosh Subedi by security personnel recently, mediapersons in the district organised a sit-in in front of the Area Police Office Lahan for two hours today.

Federation of Nepali Journalists Siraha chapter had coordinated the sit-in. Mediapersons at the sit-in said they would prolong the protest by one more hour every day until action was taken against the accused police personnel.

Further protesting the assault, local newspapers had a blank editorial today while local FM radios aired 15-minute special programme. On Sunday night, four police personnel including head constable Santosh Yadav had thrashed Subedi in front of his house. Subedi is undergoing treatment at Uma Prasad Memorial Hospital Lahan.

Police had also thrashed local mediapersons Ganesh Shah, Dilip Singh, Rohit Mandal, and Radheshyam Ram including others in the past. Dineshwor Prasad Gupta, FNJ district chapter president said lawlessness was rife in the district.
