Journos under threat: Study

Bara, September 6 :

Media persons in Bara district are still being mistreated and threatened by the Maoists, according to a report made public today by the Mechi Mahakali Media Society (MMMS).

The incidents of abductions of journalists by the Maoists have gone down, but not come to a stop, the study found.

The MMMS made the report public after conducting a two-day study tour and holding interactions with all concerned.

The study team comprised central chairman of the MMMS Madhav Sharma, vice-chairman Kishor Kumar Karki, secretary Hari Narayan Gautam and members Khem Bhandari and Baidya Nath Jha.

Urging the Maoists to stop such acts, the team called on the Maoists and the government to abide by the code of conduct. The MMMS team also urged civil society, political parties and industrialists to support and promote journalism in Bara.

The team urged the Maoists to stop interfering in the district’s industrial sector and refrain from extortion and terrorising people.
