July 31 protest plan intact

KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress on Friday said its plans to stage demonstrations in all 77 district headquarters on July 31 were unchanged.

The demonstrations will be centred around issues related to breach of constitutional provision whereby speakers and deputy speakers of the federal parliament as well as provincial assemblies should be from different parties; skyrocketing prices; ban on demonstrations at Maitighar Mandala, designating certain areas where protests can be staged; and humiliation of Nepal Sanskrit University Vice-chancellor Kul Prasad Koirala, among others.

NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma said the demonstrations would also demand effective implementation of the agreement reached with Dr Govinda KC.
