Kanchanpur man accused of murdering girl arrested from Haryana of India

BHIMDATTANAGAR: A fugitive accused of murdering a 10-year-old girl from Matena of Bhimdatta Municipality-9, has been arrested from Haryana of India.

The arrested has been identified as Hira Singh Airi (30) of Matena, Bhimdatta Municipality-9 in Kanchapur district.

Airi was arrested on the charge of murdering local Shital Bista by strangling her on August 6.

A police team deployed from District Police Office, Kanchanpur, under the command of Assistant Sub Inspector Mahadev Bhatta, took Airi under control from his relatives' rented room in the northern Indian state of Haryana.

Airi has reportedly confessed to killing the girl by strangling her. He was made public on Thursday afternoon amid a press conference organised at the DPO.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Prakash Bahadur Chand said Airi, who was drunk at the time, murdered the girl who had gone to play in the neighbourhood. He ran away after throwing the girl's body in the nearby river.

Although, rumour had it that the girl drowned in the river, police broadened the investigation after an autopsy report and an inquest, SP Chand said. He added that police had already held two suspects at the inquest on the death.
