KDC judge transferred to JC

Kathmandu, February 8

Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana, who also heads the Judicial Council, has transferred Kathmandu District Court Judge Babukaji Baniya to JC on deputation.

According to a JC source, Rana acted against Baniya after Kathmandu District Court’s non-gazetted first class officer Bholanath Chalise, who was arrested by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on January 31 on charges of bribery, incriminated Baniya in the statement he recorded at the anti-graft body.

The CIAA had arrested Chalise red-handed with Rs 5 lakh bribe.

The CIAA had carried out a sting operation after a service seeker approached the anti-graft body claiming that Chalise had sought bribe from him promising to prepare court documents of a vehicular manslaughter case in his favour.

Recently, the chief justice had also transferred five judges of Biratnagar High Court and its chief judge after they were accused of passing erroneous orders in the 33-kg gold smuggling case.
