Khotang hailstones victims demand relief

KHOTANG: Farmers of Nerpa village in Khotang district, who call themselves 'hailstone victims', have demanded relief packages from the government.

Sporadic winter rain along with hailstones on the October 23 has destroyed paddy plants in hundreds of hectors of land in the district.

Subsequently, 59 farmers of the village have demanded for reasonable compensation from the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee and the District Agricultural Development Office on Friday.

JP Acharya, a local teacher, feared that the district might face famine, as the cultivated paddy plants have been destroyed from this unexpected winter rain.
