Kichakbadh conservation under high security risk

Jhapa, February 14

The religious and historical place Kichakbadh is facing security risks due to lack of adequate conservation measures in Jhapa.

The oldest infrastructure, which is historically significant, is at risk as it is within public access even though a security team was managed for its conservation.

Various types of weapons along with household materials dating back to the 14th century were handed over to Kichakbadh Historical and Religious Conservation Committee in 2000.

The conservation committee had established a police post where 11 police personnel led by an ASI were deployed for security after the committee alone could not conserve the area.

Chief at the police post Govinda Siwakoti said that it was becoming increasingly difficult to conserve the old infrastructure as people had easy access to the area.

Chairman of the committee Dil Bahadur Thebe said the police post, which was established for the conservation of the historical place, could not conserve the area due to the same reason. Secretary Madan Kumar Kandel said infrastructure had been constructed with 20 years of strategic planning for the past five years. He said construction of a fence and wall in the conservation area was under way. He added that picnic spots and roads, among others, were under construction.
