Kin, locals protest death of new mother
Dhading, July 26
Relatives and locals staged a rally at Mahadevphant of Belkotgadhi Municipality accusing doctors of negligence for the death of a new mother in District Hospital, Nuwakot, today.
Goma Wasti, 35, of Nuwakot’s Tarkeswor Rural Municipality had died in course of treatment at the hospital last night.
Locals and relatives had staged a demonstration since early morning saying that Wasti had died due to doctors’ negligence. They have sought stern action against the guilty doctors involved in the treatment. The demonstration had disrupted the Galchhi-Devighat-Trishuli road section.
Goma had given birth to a normal baby on Thursday morning. After that, she had bled profusely. She was then referred to Maharajgunj-based TU Teaching Hospital by the hospital for treatment. She breathed her last on the way to the hospital.
Relatives and family members accused doctors of not treating the patient even though she fell semi-conscious due to excessive bleeding.
Hospital medical superintendent Dr Rem Kumar Rai, however, refuted the allegation of negligence and said Goma died of profuse bleeding.
Meanwhile, demonstration came to a halt after a talk was held at Nuwakot District Administration Office. Tarkeswor Rural Municipality and District Hospital have agreed to set up a fund of Rs 150,000 for the new-born, said CDO Drona Pokhrel.
An agreement has also been reached to probe the incident and punish doctors if found guilty.
