Kin moves DAO for compensation

Bhojpur, November 25:

Family of Devendra Rai, who died in army detention during the decade-long insurgency,

today filed a complaint in District Administration Office, Bhojpur, demanding that they be compensated.

Rights activist Gyanendra Khadka submitted the complaint on behalf of the family, after

the Home Ministry decided to provide up to Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the families of

persons who lost their lives during insurgency.

Devendra had died in Unified Command’s base camp in Hatuwagadhi of Ranibas VDC on January 5, 2004. The Unified Command had arrested Devendra on the charge of being a Maoist cadre. Different human rights organisations, including National Human Rights Commission and INSEC, had recommended the government to

provide Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation to Devendra’s family for immediate purpose. But the family has not received any compensation so far.
