Kin of war-dead to seek SC order to register case

Kavre, July 8:

Relatives of Arjun Lama, who was abducted and later killed by Maoists in 2005, are planning to move the Supreme Court seeking its order to authorities in Kavre district to register a murder case.

The Kavre district administration and the police had refused to register a murder case against the Maoists.

The Lama family has planned to file a case in the Supreme Court against the Kavre CDO and the DSP for refusing to file the case.

Arjun Lama of Chatrebanjh VDC-5 was abducted in 2005 and killed by Maoist area commander Bhola Aryal and cadres Shyam Gautam and Yadav Poudel, the Lama family said.

Talking to this daily, Kavre CDO Kabiraj Khanal said, “This is the first instance of a formal complaint against Maoists and I had directed the police to look into the case. There is no concrete evidence, so how can a case be filed?”

Lama’s family members had also met Maoist chief Prachanda and leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai in this regard, but in vain.

Lama’s son Sanbi said the Maoists are pressing the authorities not to register the case.

Maoist deputy in charge, Bamdhoj, however, said they are not pressuring the authorities against registering the case.
