King ‘not heeding’ British call for democracy

The UK has been urging the monarch to return to democracy, but the latter has not been paying heed to the suggestion, vice-chairman of the Nepali Congress (Jhapa chapter), Uddhav Thapa, quoted Jamine Wooden Duff, second secretary at the British Embassy in Nepal, as saying at an interaction held at the the office of the CPN -UML in Birtamod, Jhapa, today.
The UK stands together with the agitating political parties, Duff reportedly said, adding: “Notwithstanding the pressure from the UK, the monarch continues to be harsher towards the parties.”
As the King is not happy with the UK for its support to the movement, he has stopped meeting the UK representatives, he said. The UK has no option except not to recognise the present government, participants at the interaction quoted Duff as saying.
Nepal may witness some important political development before the onset of the rainy season,president of the NC (Jhapa chapter), Sudhir Shiwakoti, quoted Duff as saying.
Vice-chairman of the NC, Uddhav Thapa, said the British government has begun holding discussions with the agitating political parties at the district level.
