King urged to declare himself

Janakpur, September 26:

Leader of the CPN (UML), Bamdev Gautam, warned here today that monarchy would be abolished forcefully if the king did not declare himself a civilian before a referendum on the institution. Gautam was speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Chautari Nepal.

Terming the “revolt” launched by the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) anti-people,

Gautam said “the JTMM has no objective except killing and lynching people.”

It is not necessary for the government and the parties to address the revolt as it was launched without any objective, said Gautam. Terming the “revolt unreasonable and inappropriate”, he said, “It is unjustifiable and anti-people on the part of the JTMM to resort to violence at a time when the nation is in the process of a complete transformation.”

The revolt launched by the JTMM in the name of welfare of the people of Terai is against the Nepalis as a whole, he said.

The objectives, including the conduct of an election to a constituent assembly, establishment of loktantra, and abolition of monarchy, will be accomplished this year, said Gautam adding that the CPN (UML) has been putting pressure for the accomplishment of the objectives from the streets and the parliament.

Preparations are being made to abolish monarchy in a peaceful and legal manner, he said.
