King’s message sans rationale: Rana

New Delhi, February 26:

Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Pashupati Shumsher Rana said here today that the royal move of February 1, 2005 cannot be justified at any rate.

Talking to journalists, Rana said, “Though the king tried to justify his move by delivering a message on the occasion of Democracy Day, his attempt is meaningless.”

“The king should have held discussion with the government before delivering the message and the government should have expressed its view regarding the message in an institutionalised way.”

Asked about the formation of a group of democratic and nationalist forces, Rana said, “The Nepali Congress (NC) has to strive for the formation of such a group. Democratic forces got 40 per cent votes in the last election. The NC should delve into the possibility of forming such a group first.”

The government must make public the report of the Rayamajhi Commission and clarify the process it will employ to take action against the guilty, Rana said.

“RPP’s position on the king and monarchy is based on the parliament’s proclamation of May 18, 2006. We have not stepped away from the proclamation. Other issues will be decided by a party convention,” he said. “The nation witnessed the agitation of the Madhesis and the janajatis due to the arrogance of the eight parties,” he said.

Referring to the demand for the resignation of Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Rana said, “An individual is not greater than the Madhesi issues. Since the Madhesis are deprived of their rights, they can stage a peaceful agitation.”
