KMC, private sector ink waste management pact
Kathmandu, September 10:
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and the private parties engaged in garbage collection have reached a short-term agreement on garbage management. The private parties will collect garbage from houses and transport it to the dumping site at Sisdol of Okharpouwa and the KMC will manage garbage in the site, executive officer of the KMC Dinesh Thapalia said, citing the agreement. The KMC has also agreed to come up with a clear policy for sustainable garbage management after holding a detailed discussion with the private sector, expert groups and the locals.
It has also agreed to put garbage containers in places near large hotels, hospitals and diplomatic missions. Over 40 private and community organisations are collecting over 30 per cent of garbage produced in the Kathmandu metropolis.
