CHITWAN: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Minendra Rijal on Tuesday said that upcoming NC General Convention would elect sitting party president Sushil Koirala as party new president.

He said that Koirala-led government completed the historic task and aspiration of late democratic fighter and NC leader BP Koirala of promulgating the constitution through people’s elected body, Constituent Assembly.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Chitwan chapter of Nepal Press Union here, he also said that despite some works remaining uncompleted, it was Koirala’s continuous effort that helped to form NC as a big party in parliament.

In a different context, saying that it was not a time to change the incumbent government, he stated that NC sitting in the opposition would suggest and help the government as much as it can.

Saying that the government should focus on opening obstructed border points with India at the earliest, he said that it was the government that should speak up on international relations, but not political parties.
